A baby and childrenswear boutique based in Chester has won an award as a niche retailer.

Chateau de sable, on Watergate Street, won the Drapers Independents Retail Award at a ceremony at The Brewery in London.

The shop and website was praised by the Drapers’ expert judging panel for its marketing strategy and consistent growth in such a competitive sector.

The judging was based on sound financial performance, a well-devised business plan alongside excellent store presentation, a unique website and a strong social media presence.

Owner Janice Atlay said: “To be recognised by Drapers alongside high profile brands is a true honour, such an award will continue to raise Chateau de sable’s profile nationally in the retail sector. This award is for a true team effort.”

Editorial director of Drapers Eric Musgrave said: “In the 25 years since they were inaugurated in 1991, the Drapers Independents Awards have become a calendar fixture for the industry. They are rightly regarded as the Oscars for the fashion.

“The competition has become a national institution with both the industry and consumers, a standard for – and recognition of – excellence in all aspects of indie fashion retailing in the UK and Ireland.”

The Drapers Independents Awards are the most applauded and relevant awards in the fashion independent sector. The awards provide industry recognition and unrivalled networking opportunities.

With 13 categories, the awards cover every aspect of the independent fashion industry, from Best Store Design to Lifestyle Independent of the Year.
