A CHARITY football match in Ashton Hayes brought a smiles to the faces of those for miles around.

The special football match was held at Ashton Hayes in aid of Nightingale House Hospice and Chronicle-backed charity Miles of Smiles.

The match was organised by Gavin Connery, a production manager at Saica Packa.

Gavin said: “Our daughter Gemma was lucky enough to experience Disneyland Paris last year thanks to Miles of Smiles. It is something we and Gemma will never forget so we thought as a family it would be nice to give something back.”

The two teams, Gemma’s Galacticos from Ashton Hayes and Saica Pack select 11 from Winsford, battled it out on the pitch.

Referee Steve Goulding officiated and the match was followed by a charity auction and raffle in the Golden Lion Ashton Hayes.

Gavin added: “Both teams and supporters and all at The Golden Lion got behind the event and we raised £3,000. We hope to make this an annual event.”
