EVENTS have taken place to celebrate the wildlife and countryside in Cheshire.

The county councilled Sandstone Ridge ECOnet Partnership (SREP) held two days hosted by Tarmac Limited at Crown Farm Quarry, Oakmere.

The first event was for businesses and civic dignitaries to hear about joint partnership working, especially between SREP and Tarmac Limited to restore and create habitats such as heathland, woodland, peatland and meadows.

There was a safari of the quarry site and another looking at 14 SREP projects including the creation of a wildflower meadow in Kelsall, hedgerow planning by children from Utkinton Primary School and access work with Oakmere Parish Council.

The second day was a celebration of SREP and an open day for residents to see what is happening in the area and to encourage their voluntary involvement.

Quarry tours took place, as well as fossil making and skills such as basket weaving and stone masonry.

The Women's Institute, which is involved in SREP work with communities, provided locally produced refreshments.

SREP's aim is to create an interconnected network of woodlands, heathlands, wetlands and grasslands along the Sandstone Ridge to provide habitats for wildlife and improve access and opportunities for people.
