Thomas Wilson was selected from more than a hundred applicants to attend this event in Parliament from July 4-8.
Funded by Parliament’s Education Service, Thomas will get to meet the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, participate in question and answer sessions with the Speaker and the Lord Speaker, and hear from parliamentarians of all parties in both the Commons and Lords.
In the ten years since it was launched, Teachers’ Institute has trained more than 500 teachers, from all parts of the UK, in the role, work and history of Parliament.
MP for Chester Chris Matheson said: “I am delighted that Thomas, a teacher from my constituency, is attending Parliament’s Teachers’ Institute. Teachers have so many opportunities to engage young people with their Parliament and I am sure that the students in The Catholic High School will benefit from Thomas’ experience.”
Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow MP said: “I am proud that this excellent initiative, now in its tenth year, continues to provide such an invaluable service. Better engagement and dialogue with young people is of fundamental importance to our democracy, and I am sure that the teachers attending will find the experience both useful and enlightening.”
