A FUN-FILLED event at Castle Park, Frodsham, was tailored to man’s best friend.

The dog awareness day invited dozens of community groups, dog owners and their canine companions for a fun day including mini-competitions, free health checks for pets and hundreds of treats dished out.

Co-organiser Brenda Baskerville, of the Frodsham-based Cheshire Dog Studio, was delighted with the turnout at the event.

She said: “It went absolutely magnificently. The event was supposed to start at 10.30am but we had loads and loads of people around by 10am.

“The idea was to micro-chip all dogs there free of charge and we did so.

“We had free health checks for dogs, seeing if their teeth and weight were correct, we had Cheshire dogs for the Blind in attendance and Cheshire police dogs.

“We also had a gentleman doing dog training for dogs and their owners, which was so successful he is now looking to hold a weekly class at Castle Park every Friday afternoon.

“The other co-organiser and council ranger Stephanie Hefferan, said we are looking to do it again in September.

“Everything was more than fantastic and we gave away lots of goodies.”

Cheshire West and Chester councillor Andrew Dawson, who has a labrador pup, attended the event.

He said: “Both Cllr Lynn Riley and myself are responsible dog owners.

“This event was initially to raise issues with problem behaviour of dogs in the park.

“However, it is wonderful that from such a start point, the local community has responded in such a positive way, helping to promote responsible dog ownership.”
