DETECTIVES are investigating an attempted robbery on an armoured cash transit van in Widnes.
The offenders struck while the Mercedes Sprinter security van was parked outside Bargain Booze in Ditchfield Road at 11.30am last Thursday.
As the driver returned to the van he spotted one of the robbers waiting nearby while two other men raced toward him from an alleyway.
The driver scrambled into the van and locked the door while the thugs tried to force their way in.
They failed to open the door and ran off.
The first man was in his late teens or early 20s, with a chubby face and a mole on his left cheek. He wore a black, yellow and red hat rolled up on top of his head.
The second offender was tall and thin but like the third gang member had his face covered.
