FOLLOWING a successful trial, golfing professionals at De Vere Carden Park are offering the local community in Chester the opportunity to benefit from free golf coaching.

In partnership with The Golf Foundation and the English Golf Union, golf professionals at the hotel have been working with schools and community groups in the area to deliver golf skills coaching as an introduction to the game.

The popularity of the courses has led to interest from a broad range of community organisations - including schools, ladies and family groups - all interested in taking up the sport and learning new skills.

Successful six-week coaching sessions have already been delivered to children at local schools including Bickerton Primary, Waverton Primary and Bishop Heber High School.

The golf professionals at De Vere Carden Park now want to spread the scheme to other schools in the area.

Tri-Golf was developed to enable golf to be delivered to primary school children by teachers within the school environment.

The golf team at Carden Park organise fun-based games and activities, using giant plastic clubs and balls, designed to inspire and motivate children.

Steve Priest, head golf professional at De Vere Carden Park, said: “The pilot scheme has been a great success and we are committed to working in partnership with the education sector. All activities are linked to the curriculum, and can be delivered within the school environment or at the fantastic golf facilities we have here at Carden Park.

“Golf can be a powerful vehicle in terms of helping children and young people to develop important life skills and personal qualities, so we’d really love to hear from other schools interested in taking up this opportunity.”

Free golf skills coaching are also being offered to local ladies groups in the Chester area.
