A Cumbrian man is looking to the people of Tarporley to help him solve a family mystery.

John Veevers, of Kendall, was clearing out his parents’ home following them going into care when he came across a medal in a leather bound case which had engraved on the back ‘Tarporley Hospital Cup 1933’.

John said: “As neither of my parents ever lived in Cheshire I can only assume it was passed down from my late grandmother’s brother, Maurice Fell, who lived for many years on the Wirral at Upton.

“I believe he married a lady called Edith who may well have been a nurse, from where I know not, whilst he was in the Royal Artiliary, ending his army service as an RSM.

“I wondered if any of your readers could shed any light on why and to whom it was presented, especially in 1933.”

John’s father Colin has lived in Kendall all his life, but his mother Eleanor was well travelled.

John added: “My mother was born in Brandon, Manitoba in Canada with the surname Harper moving to the UK, along with six of her eight siblings and parents to farm in Kendal.”
