There are now just days to go before Hoole finds out whether it has been successful in its bid to be crowned Britain’s best high street.

And even though the community appears to be in the lead, the group behind Hoole’s bid are urging residents to keep the votes pouring in as the national competition reaches its culmination.

Voting closes at midnight on Friday 13 November and with the public vote making up 50% of the judging, the people behind the Notting Hoole group are urging Cestrians to get online and show support for their local retailers in the national Google-sponsored competition.

Sue Mason from Notting Hoole said: “Entering the GB High Street competition has been a catalyst for businesses and residents in Hoole. We are so honoured to be shortlisted, and delighted to be in the lead for public votes.

“With one week to go, Hoole is ever so close to winning the 2015 Great British High Street award. Every vote counts, so please vote before Friday.”

High Streets Minister Marcus Jones said the competition has generated lots of excitement up and down the country.

“It has been proof that the local high street is the life and soul of towns, villages and cities across the country,” he said. “It’s also been great to see the innovation that’s going on to make sure the high street is the go to destination for years to come.

“Hoole has done fantastically well to make it to the final, but the result is still in the balance. If you cherish your local shops, pubs and restaurants get online and cast your vote.”

The Great British High Street Competition 2015 is one of a number of initiatives to help champion high streets as the cornerstones of the community, which include a billion pound package of investment ranging from targeted business rate discounts, sensible planning changes and action that reins in over-zealous parking practices.

Voting closes on Friday November 13. Votes can be made via the Great British High Street website.
