VOTERS in Nantwich will choose a new town councillor next month.

A vacancy has arisen in the Wellington ward after Nantwich Independent member Jean Powell passed away on March 28.

Mrs Powell, 72, suffered a fatal heart attack as she travelled home on a bus in the town centre.

The election takes place on Thursday, July 12 at the ward polling station at Brookfield Hall in Shrewbridge Road.

The four candidates are Jennifer Masser (Nantwich Independent), Rachel Shenton (Labour), Norma Simpson (Conservative) and Nerissa Wilson (Liberal Democrat).

Mrs Masser hopes to continue the work which Mrs Powell started and to look after the bus routes in the ward, and improve parking in Station View.

Mrs Shenton aims to raise issues such as children's play areas, traffic parking and protecting Brookfield Park.

Mrs Simpson wants to address the issue of over-development in Nantwich and the car parking situation.

Liberal Democrat Mrs Wilson wishes to represent the town in a 'non-partisan' way and work closely with the borough and county councils for Nantwich.
