POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a distraction burglary targeted an 92-year-old Tarporley man on bonfire night.

At 8pm a woman knocked on the rear door of the man’s bungalow on Oathills Drive, offering to do any odd jobs.

He declined and the woman then asked for a glass of water, so the victim allowed her into the house to get a drink.

While the woman was distracting the victim, a window was forced at the other side of the house. A search was made of the victim’s bedroom, and a quantity of cash stolen from the house.

The woman is described as white, in her late 20s or early 30s, wearing a grey speckled woollen hat, 5ft 8in tall, strong build, wearing a black or dark coat and dark trousers and had a local accent.

Police spokeswoman Shelley Williams said: “If anybody saw anybody suspicious, please contact DC Matt Stenton at Western Proactive Policing Team on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
