CHESHIRE West and Chester Council is to host a free driver awareness briefing that is designed to provide information and advice for all types of motorist.

The event is available to everyone, from company drivers and those who use their car to commute to work, to those who have held a licence for many years and may only drive occasionally.

The two-hour briefing will take place at the Cheshire County Sports Club on Plas Newton Lane, Chester on Thursday, May 2, from 7pm and is organised by the Safe and Sustainable Travel Team.

It will include road safety advice to extend driving knowledge, skills and confidence and develop tolerance and consideration for other road users and also focus on reducing driver stress and the likelihood of being involved in a crash or other incident on the road.

Upton councillors Jill Houlbrook and Hilarie McNae fully support the scheme.

Cllr Houlbrook said: “The session is designed for local road users who feel they could benefit from a brush up on their skills navigating our roads, and will include advice on in-car safety and how to drive economically in a climate of extremely high fuel costs.

“The two hour briefing session encourages drivers to take part in discussions and exercises on defensive driving techniques, hazard awareness and risk perception.”

Cllr McNae added: “Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Safe and Sustainable Travel Team is also offering the opportunity for drivers to develop their driving skills by booking an hour long driving assessment with an approved driver trainer at a very reasonable cost.”
