A BROUGHTON man has been warned he faces a long prison sentence after he was convicted by a jury of sex offences against a little girl.

Colin Kenton, 27, denied charges of indecent assault and sexual assault on a child but was convicted after a short adjournment by the jury at Mold Crown Court yesterday.

Kenton, of Warren Drive, who had been on bail, had denied all charges. He was remanded in custody pending sentence in August.

The allegations, which he denied, involved a young girl aged under 10.

Prosecutor Karl Scholz said the girl had told two of her best friends what had happened.

The victim also told a member of her family, who told her mother. Police were alerted and Kenton was arrested.

Judge Phillip Hughes warned Kenton it was a serious matter and the sentence would be one measured in years.

It was aggravated by his previous convictions, the judge said.

In 1999 Kenton had been placed on supervision following a sex assault on a very young boy and in 1997 he had been cautioned for an indecent assault on a very young girl.
