CHESTER’S Classic Christmas continues next week with the city’s first Bright Night on Thursday, November 17, which welcomes new light installations and the traditional lantern parade.

The annual parade will see more than 100 schoolchildren joined by street performers as they carry their handmade lanterns through Chester city centre, starting from The Forum Shopping Centre at 7pm.

The parade will tell the story of Fishing for Stars as it winds around the city centre. arriving at the Cross to switch on the Christmas tree lights.

The parade ends at the Cathedral’s Green, St Werburgh Street, where a specially commissioned light installation will bring the grounds to life through colour and light. The feature will remain until Saturday, November 19.

Cllr Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “Bright Night is the first of our new Christmas events, including the specially commissioned light installation at the cathedral that perfectly compliments the lanterns.

“There is an exciting programme of parades and events taking place on Thursday late-night shopping evenings and at weekends in the build up to Christmas this year, offering a festive welcome to residents and visitors.”

The Classic Christmas events and activities are a partnership between Cheshire West and Chester Council, Chester Renaissance, Marketing Cheshire and Chester Festivals.

Details of the Christmas events are available at http://www.visitchester.com/christmas and in a magazine being distributed across the borough.
