THE Widnes and District Horticultural Society show takes place on Sunday at Ditton Community Centre.

Entrants will be exhibiting items in a range of categories and contending for 18 cups and shields and five medals affiliated to national societies.

Exhibitors are invited to set up their displays either on Saturday from 6-9pm or on Sunday at 9-11.45am and the show will open at 2pm on Sunday.

Ann Martindale, one of the organisers, said: 'Usually we do quite well with a turnout of hundreds of people. With the recent weather it will be interesting to see what the exhibits are like - our garden has taken a real hammering this summer.

'There will be 19 classes of vegetables, fruit, roses, flowers, container plants, chrysanthemums, dahlias and gladioli as well as floral art, domestic, cooking, handicrafts, photography and a children's section for people who must be 13 or under on the day.'

Entry to the event is 20p.
