TEAMWORK was the focus of the day as Year 7 students from Blacon High School visited the Kingswood Colomendy Centre.

The trip to the Flintshre centre was organised to help develop the relationships and confidence of students who have recently started at the school.

Transition mentor Laura Walker said: “The school puts a great emphasis on the work we do with our partner primary schools, giving students a taste of what Blacon High School is like before the start.

“This trip is designed to build on that work and to mould these young people into a Year 7 team.”

The day focused on developing social and emotional skills through activities such as climbing, abseiling, rope courses and problem-solving.

Students built self-confidence and team work as they took part in each activity.

Laura Walker added: “It was great to see so many students taking part in the sessions, encouraging each other and having the confidence to try new things.”

Social and emotional aspects of learning (SEAL) co-ordinator Lee Cairns summed up the fantastic day had by both staff and pupild.

He said: “We arrived this morning as a group of individuals and went away a team.

“This reflects the work that everyone at Blacon High School is doing to move the students and the school forwards.”
