Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Recycle First collection scheme has been focussing on the service in Blacon.

Council officers have teamed up with recycling firm Kier, social landlords Sanctuary Housing and the Luv Blacon environmental project (sponsored by the Blacon Cleaner Safer Greener Group) to encourage residents to recycle more of their waste.

The Recycle First team took part in an engagement day, chatting with residents about their recycling and breaking down any barriers to recycling they had. The team also visited residents to replace old and broken containers.

Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet member for environment, said: “Many people have been confused about when to put out their container and what to put in each box, food waste recycling is also low in the area.

“A lot of containers were broken, stopping people participating in the Recycle First service. Our recycling team offered support to residents and provided them with the resources and information they need.

“The recycle day also linked in with a Pink Poo campaign aimed at tackling dog fouling and irresponsible dog owners. This was supported by community volunteers, by working in this co-ordinated way residents can contribute to improving the environment in Blacon.”

The day aimed to encourage Blacon residents to recycle more and waste less, helping to make the area cleaner and greener.
