Blacon residents have had a go a boxing, cricket and running as part of an exciting new sport and fitness programme.

Sanctuary Housing, Avenue Services and Active Cheshire teamed up to hold a Give it a Go taster day on Tuesday, July 21, to launch the Energise Blacon activities.

The programme will deliver a range of low-cost sport and fitness sessions for residents aged 11 and over. The programme will run until the first week of September.

Ella Anderson, aged six, gets on her bike with the Sanctuary Housing Team and Cllr Reggie Jones at the Energise Blacon 'Give It a Go' taster day on Tuesday, July 21

Activities will include multi-sports at Graham Road Park and Queen Elizabeth Playing Fields on Blacon Avenue, bootcamp sessions at Saxon Way Playing Field, walking football at Blacon High School and beginners circuits at Matthew Henry Church on Nevin Road.

Energise Blacon forms part of Sanctuary’s national Love Sport programme, in partnership with Sport England, which is taking place in Blacon and three further Sanctuary neighbourhoods, and aims to engage more than 2,250 residents across the country in sport and fitness activities.

Sanctuary’s commitment to the five-year programme has been match-funded by Sport England, through National Lottery investment.

Avenue Service’s neighbourhoods manager, Janet Gittins, said: “It was fantastic to see residents of all ages taking part in a wide range of sporting activities. There are a host of low cost activities over the summer to encourage residents in Blacon to get energised.”
