A Blacon man found dead at his home had suffered with a ‘very long history’ of depression, an inquest heard.

Stephan Jennerway, 50, had not been since Christmas Eve last year before he was discovered at the flat in Plas Dinas on December 29.

It was said Mr Jennerway, who had previously worked at the Grosvenor Garden Centre, had been affected by the bullying he received as a child.

Assistant coroner for Cheshire Dr Janet Napier recorded a conclusion of suicide at his inquest at Chester Magistrates Court on April 13.

She told Mr Jennerway’s family: “I understand your anguish, it is terrible what happened.

“He had a very long history of problems with his mental health stemming from the bad time he had when he was a child.

“I am going to sadly give the conclusion that Stephan Jennerway died at his home address, his cause of death being hanging. I give you my deepest sympathies.”

Family became concerned

The 50-year-old’s family had become concerned about his welfare after they did not see him over the Christmas period.

They went round to check on him, but a catch had been put on the door of his flat so police were called to help force entry.

When he was found in the hall paramedics were alerted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

DS Simon Owen said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Jennerway’s death and Cheshire Constabulary did not believe there was any third party involvement.
