Police are investigating after suspected arsonists torched a work van outside the driver’s home.

Fire crews were called to Hillside Road, Blacon, Chester, at 11pm last night (Friday, September 18) after reports of the Sanctuary Housing vehicle being ‘well alight’ in the roadway.

Two hosereels were used to extinguish the blaze which is believed to have been started just minutes earlier and may have initially involved the front tyres.

Firefighters had to use hydraulic rams to force the rear doors, which were fitted with deadlocks, to ensure no fire spread.

The van driver was said to be ‘shocked and upset’ . A crowd had gathered outside their homes to see what was going on.

Police arrived on scene to investigate and arrange for the van to be recovered.
