Teachers at a Chester high school are downright happy.

Staff at the Bishops' Blue Coat CE High School in Boughton are enjoying the resounding success on YouTube of a video which was created as the climax to an exciting end of year event for their Year 11 students.

Action starts with headteacher Justin Blakebrough ‘haranguing’ a seemingly uninterested staff team in the school’s drama studio.

It then switches to him dressed in an oversized hat, created by the textiles department, leading staff in an extraordinary series of dance sequences to the catchy block-buster song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams.

The project was the brainchild of senior learning and achievement manager Victoria Chase.

She said: “The staff rose to the occasion brilliantly. We all had such fun and much laughter. It was great to let our hair down and show that as well as working hard to prepare exciting lessons and supporting students to perform as best they can in exams, the staff are prepare to go one step further and have a laugh at themselves too.”

The premiere of the video was at the end of the Year 11 celebration service for students and their parents in a packed assembly hall.

The event combined speeches, performances, reflection and prayer.

Learning and achievement manager for Year 11 Cheryl Foster said, “This event is so important to us. To share the fellowship and success of this year group with the students, their parents and our teachers really proves that our school community works together to nurture our students – and of course that we are a happy school! The expressions of surprise and laughter that filled the room as the staff appeared on screen was wonderful.”
