STUDENTS from Bishop Heber High School brewed up a storm as Malpas residents turned out in force for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The sixth formers organised the annual Macmillan Cancer Support event at the Jubilee Hall as part of their business studies course.

Tea, coffee, biscuits and cake were on the menu as the glorious weather brought members of the community out in their droves, with more than 400 people coming along to show their support.

A variety of stalls offered something for everyone, including produce, plants, soft furnishings, books, Jamie Oliver kitchenware, samba jewellery and phoenix cards, while local businesses donated prizes for the raffle.

Students worked together on tasks relating to their course, such as promotion, food and drink, stalls and finance to complete the day’s preparation.

The event raised funds towards the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and Macmillan. The total amount raised is still being calculated, as donations are still being received.

Sue Griffith, business studies teacher, said the group ‘worked very hard’.

“It has given them an opportunity to develop their personal skills, such as, leadership, decision making, time management and communication which are so important in their future careers,” she added.

“They are delighted with the number of people who attended the coffee morning and for the many compliments received.”
