POLICE will be out in force at this weekend’s British Superbike meeting at Oulton Park to prevent a repeat of the problems that marred the same event last year.

Furious motorsport fans vowed never to return to the Cheshire racing circuit after a weekend of ‘hell’ at the venue’s campsite just over 12 months ago.

The Oulton Park Facebook page was inundated with complaints from people venting their anger over the ‘inadequate’ facilities, lack of security and drunken behaviour.

To add insult to injury, 15 tents were targeted by thieves who stole cash, wallets and iPods.

This weekend’s British Superbike Championship event will see site security, police officers and PCSO’s out in force to deal with any incidents.

Officers will also be offering fans crime prevention advice during the course of the weekend.

Inspector Keith Curbishley said: “We continue to provide an effective and visible police presence for this event, working together with the organisers to ensure the championship runs safely for all who attend and that any pockets of disruption are dealt with swiftly and effectively.

“As with all outdoor events such as this, the campsite could be vulnerable to incidents of theft.

“We urge all visitors to make sure they take precautions to keep their valuables safe.

“Do not leave valuables inside tents, whether they are occupied or left unattended.

“Police officers, site security and PCSO’s will patrol the camp site during the event alongside to provide reassurance to campers and deter thieves.”
