OLYMPIC bronze medallist and Dancing on Ice champion Beth Tweddle will open the Huxley and Hargrave village fête in June.

The Happy Days event, from June 28-30, begins at 7.30pm with a Coronation Classic Concert, to celebrate 60 years since Her Majesty’s Coronation, featuring the Chester Wind Band.

Tweddle, of Bunbury, will open the Saturday fête at 2pm which begins with a parade of floats from Huxley to Hargrave.

The former Queen’s School student will travel in an open-topped car, leaving Huxley at 1pm.

She will also crown the Rose Queen, Heather Churchill-Evans.

Attractions during the course of the afternoon include maypole dancing, donkey rides, puppet show, falconry, face-painting, basket weaving, barbecue, tombola, and many other stalls as well as our popular bacon butties.

For enthusiastic youngsters, there will be sports competitions and an inter-club bowling match on the adjacent green completes the traditional atmosphere.

The day will be completed with a barn dance at 7.30pm to ‘Flaxmere Band’, when a fish ‘n’ chip supper will be served.

On Sunday, a family service at noon will be held in St. Peter’s Church, Hargrave, with the rose queen and the Lord Mayor of Chester in attendance.

This service is followed by Sunday lunch in the marquee where all are welcome.

Finally, there will be rounders for all on the church field at 3pm.
