BEESTON Castle is celebrating St George’s Day by going back to the Medieval Age.

In honour of England’s patron saint, English Heritage is playing host to re-enactors from The Lion Rampart group this weekend at the castle, who will perform medieval songs and dances, and wow crowds with their dazzling juggling and archery displays.

The fun starts on Saturday from 10am until Monday.

Visitors can join in traditional dances from 11am, and learn all about the history of St George with a performance of The Legend of St George from 1.15pm (1.30pm on Sunday and Monday).

And don’t miss the highlight of each day – the Tournament, where knights will be seen engaging in hand-to-hand combat in the shadow of the castle itself.

Visitors can step behind the scenes into the knights’ training camp for demonstrations and explanations of the skills required for foot combat, including how a knight is dressed in armour, and what its design says about social standing.

The Medieval Pageant closes at 5.00pm. Admission prices range from £6.00 for adults, £5.50 for concessions and £3.50 for children.
