POLICE have established ward walks to combat anti-social behaviour and low-level crime in Frod-sham.

The walks aim to spot potential crime prevention measures and crack down on offenders.

Members of Frodsham Town Council, Vale Royal community safety wardens, Frodsham High School deputy head, Sharon Hitchin and Liz Massey, area housing officer for Weaver Vale Housing Trust will accompany organiser PC Phil Meredith.

PC Meredith said this community partnership approach to improving public safety had worked well in other parts of Cheshire.

'It could bring real benefits for residents,' he added.

'A lot that goes on in Frod-sham is described as low-level but a lot of residents find it's affecting their lives greatly.

'Some issues the police alone can't always combat and this is why I think a multi-agency approach to problems can be effective.

'It could be we find a higher police presence is needed to target certain problems, or the council may be able to come up with funding to address other issues that come to light.

'The housing association, if they identify individual offenders who live in one of their houses, have powers in relation to breach of tenancy agreements.'

Frodsham mayor Dennis Taylor, and town councillors, Geoff Bath, Brian Lloyd and Tony Hinkins will take part in the first round of ward walks.

Cllr Hinkins said: 'This really will bring things down to brass tacks.'

* The North ward walk will be on August 10, 2pm, and take in Eddisbury Square, Church Street, High Street, Ship Street, Waterside Drive, Ashton Drive, St Hilda's Drive, Hayes Crescent, Bridge Lane, Volunteer Street and Weaver Crescent.

* The East ward walk on August 15, from 10am, will cover Frodsham Community Centre, Langdale Way, Grasmere Road, Townfield Lane, Fairways, Doric Avenue, Fluin Lane, Red Lane and The Willows.
