Early 20th century gangland violence came to the peaceful surroundings of the National Waterways Museum.

Award-winning BBC Two drama series  Peaky Blinders, starring Hollywood actors Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill and Tom Hardy filmed scenes at the museum giving a huge lift to actor Steve Peace.

“I live in Ellesmere Port and was lucky enough to be acting in the scenes,” said  Steve.

“It was a great experience to film a big budget production in my home town.

“I'm playing one of the Peaky Blinders gang.

“It was amazing to work alongside such high profile actors.”

Filming went on into the night and the set was lit by two huge cranes.

The gangster family epic set in 1919 Birmingham won two awards in the recent BAFTAs.

A hit with audiences when it aired last year, the series won an award for its director Otto Bathurst and photography and lighting  craftsman George Steel.

It was also nominated for special effects, original TV music, production design and  sound.

The gang was known for sewing razor blades in the peaks of their caps.
