Police have released details about a brutal street attack on a middle-aged man by a gang wielding baseball bats.

The 50-year-old victim was flown to hospital by air ambulance suffering head injuries following an assault by three men which happened during broad daylight yesterday afternoon (Monday, April 4) on the Blacon estate.

Officers were called to Hatton Road about 4.15pm after being alerted by North West Ambulance Service .

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “On arrival police established that an altercation had taken place on the street in Hatton Road involving three men and the victim and the three men had then assaulted the victim with what has been described to officers at the scene as wooden bats.

“The victim sustained injuries to the head during the assault and has, as a precautionary measure, been taken to Aintree Hospital by air ambulance.”

The three men were seen running from the Hatton Road area in the direction of the shopping parade in Blacon.

A police officer at the scene told The Chronicle a ‘serious incident’ had occurred and confirmed there had been one casualty. Hatton Road was partially closed to traffic while police enquiries were made.
