THE Arts Council has pumped £20,500 into Congleton Borough Council's Gypsy Traveller Project.

The 12-month project aims to improve 'engagement and understanding between public bodies and the Gypsy and Traveller community'.

Middlewich High School is taking part and has staged sewing and fashion sessions, while activities have also taken place at Microchips in Wheelock Street.

Travellers were consulted on a programme of workshops in fashion, songwriting and singing, jewellery making, rapping and photography.

Community development officer Julie Walker said: 'The workshops are very useful as a vehicle to explore and promote dialogue around the issues and concerns of Gypsies and Travellers.'
