Police have arrested a 63-year-old local man in connection with a 'cowardly' attack on a pensioner in Chester city centre.

The 80-year-old victim was left with cuts and bruises after he was assaulted in broad daylight at around 11am on Monday, September 19.

Minutes earlier, he was involved in a verbal dispute with his attacker - who was described as a middle-aged male cyclist - on Crook Street, but the victim was walking away down an alleyway towards Watergate Street when he was pushed to the floor from behind.

The 63-year-old, who was arrested by officers from Chester Local Policing Unit , has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Investigating officer DC Stephen Owens described the incident last week as a 'cowardly attack' on a 'frail, elderly man who suffers from poor eyesight', who was left shaken and in need of hospital treatment.
