Police are investigating an armed robbery at Frodsham Post Office which took place this morning (Wednesday, June 1).

Reports were received of a raid on the Main Street shop shortly before 8.30am.

Two men, believed to armed with a handgun, entered the store and threatened staff before fleeing the scene. There are no reports of any injuries although post office workers are understood to be shaken up.

It is not known at this stage if anything was taken. Police are investigating whether the men left the scene in a getaway car or on foot. The force helicopter was scrambled in the search for the suspects.

Officers, including armed patrols, remain in the area and enquiries are ongoing.

Back in 2010 the postmistress at the same post office suffered a terrifying ordeal at the hands of robbers wielding a hand gun who escaped with £20,000.
