A BURGLAR who stole cash from a countryside pub is being hunted by detectives.

At around 8.15am today (Monday, September 12), Cheshire Police were called to the Malt Shovel Inn on Liverpool Road, Neston.

The thief entered the pub via an insecure door, donning a balaclava and armed with a small silver coloured baton.

He assaulted the licencee's wife by punching her in the face before demanding access to the safe and stealing cash takings and jewellery.

Although she did not require hospital treatment, the victim sustained a significant eye injury as a result of the assault.

The victim describes her male attacker as approximately 5'7" tall and of medium build . He wore dark clothing and spoke with a local accent.
