A Christmas night out turned into chaos when a man claiming to be brandishing a gun threatened revellers outside a pub by getting into his car and driving straight at them.

Pubgoers enjoying a festive evening at The Travellers Rest in Little Sutton on Saturday, December 14, were left fearing for their lives after the man, who had previously been told to leave by the doorman, suddenly began shouting threats at staff and customers in the car park just before midnight.

He then went to the boot of his car, took out what he claimed was a gun hidden under a sheet and although did not actually show a firearm, threatened to ‘blow your heads off’.

The man, who was with three women and another man, then got into a pale coloured car and proceeded to drive it towards the people standing outside the pub, forcing them to defend themselves by throwing benches at his car.

At one point he collided with a 20-year-old woman, knocking her to the ground, before finally driving off.

Fortunately she received only minor injuries.

Police have now launched an appeal to trace the man, and are pursuing ‘active lines of enquiry’.

They are not looking for the other man and three women who were with him at the time.

Meanwhile, onlookers took to Facebook to describe their terror.

One wrote: “We were having a fag on the bench and saw the man go into his boot, get a blue plastic sheet and shout.

“We literally ran and jumped over the wall but he kept mouthing off. He then got into his car, reversed and crashed into a van and people who were there.

“He did the same thing a few times then everyone started throwing things at the car including the bench and all his front windshield shattered, glass everywhere before he sped off.

“We were scared he was going to come back but then five police cars turned up.”

A police statement said: “At 11.54pm on Saturday, December 14 , police received a report of a disturbance at a pub in Ellesmere Port.

“A man had been in the Traveller’s Rest in Ledsham Road, Little Sutton, with another man and three women.

“Enquiries are continuing to locate the offender and anyone with information should contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 1021 of December 14 2013.”
