All of Cheshire West's MPs voted to pass the Government's bill on Brexit.

Chris Matheson (Chester) and Justin Madders (Ellesmere Port and Neston) were not among the Labour rebels on the issue.

Conservatives Graham Evans (Weaver Vale) and Antoinette Sandbach (Eddisbury) also backed their cabinet.

The vote passed by 494 to 122 on Thursday (February 8).

Ms Sandbach had earlier in the week been among seven Tory rebels who had believed the Commons should get the final say on the deal to leave the EU.

Instead MPs will vote before it goes to the European Parliament for approval, after the Government made a concession earlier in the week.

The Eddisbury MP said she had 'voted with her conscience' on the issue.

She tweeted: “Tonight I voted in accordance with my conscience and to represent the interests of all my constituents.”

In total there were 52 Labour rebels who did not support the bill, along with the SNP and the Green Party's sole MP Caroline Lucas.

Cheshire West voted to leave the European Union in the referendum last June. As did Cheshire East and Halton, which cover parts of Mr Evans and Ms Sandbach's constituencies.

What was the vote about?

MPs voted on the "third reading" of the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill on February 8. 2017.

This is MPs' final chance to back a Bill. The first vote, last week, gave them the chance to back or oppose it in principle.

But, in a rare case, this Bill was not amended at all, so basically the two votes were on the same grounds.

The Bill was introduced after the Supreme Court ruled MPs must vote on activating Article 50 - the trigger for Britain's two-year exit from the EU.

It is just two sentences long, and gives Theresa May authority to invoke Article 50.
