The family of Anne Williams are the subject of a BBC documentary which followed them over the two long years of the Hillsborough inquests.

Campaigner Anne, whose son was killed in the disaster, sadly died just after the fresh inquests were announced but played a crucial part in securing those inquests and their later, damning verdicts.

Anne lived in Chester prior to her death in 2013 after a battle with cancer.

Kevin Williams was just 15 when he left the house to watch his beloved Liverpool FC at the FA cup semi final in Sheffield. Anne never stopped fighting to secure justice for him and the others who died on April 15 1989, as well as their families and the survivors.

BBC Inside Out North West Hillsborough Special: With Hope in their Hearts, was aired twice on Tuesday, close on the heels of the findings which exonerated Liverpool fans of any blame for the disaster and returned Unlawful Killing verdicts on the dead, and is still available to watch in full on the BBC Iplayer here .

The documentary shows her daughter Sara and brother Danny Gordon as they sit through the inquests and hear evidence of Kevin’s death.

Danny said: “I don’t know where she (Anne) got her courage from; she loved her children, that’s all I can think. She loved her children so much and that kept her going.”
