Police in Miami investigating the hit and run which killed a Newton man have revealed they are working on several leads.

Andrew Hamilton, a former pupil of St David's High School in Saltney , was on holiday with friends when he was knocked down by a convertible BMW at speed during the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 13).

His heartbroken family described the popular 27-year-old, who worked for a PPI firm in Altrincham, as a ‘fun loving crazy family guy'.

Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez told the Chronicle: "At this point, our investigators are still working several leads.

"The subject in this case has not been apprehended.

"No other charges have been filed at this time.

"We provided assistance to the family via the consulate."

Andrew had been crossing Collins Avenue in the North Beach area when he was struck.

The driver of the car - which was said to have been travelling at around 100mph - fled the scene on foot.

A fundraising page set up in Andrew's memory by his best friend Kelly Tyrer reached its initial target in just 24 hours.
