ALVANLEY Primary School pupils wore costumes reflecting the Victorian era, the 1920s, 40s and 60s as they travelled through time in a week-long celebration of their historic school’s milestone anniversary.

From slate and chalk to modern interactive whiteboards and laptops, the school has been a major part of village life for 150 years, giving generations of children a thirst for learning and friends for life.

To celebrate the special anniversary, the school’s 60 pupils and staff looked back over the decades in a week of historical exploration that included historical workshops, old fashioned games and a ‘street’ party in the playground.

There was also an open session and guided tours of the school, where leadership, pupil attainment and behaviour were declared ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors last year in their first report since Alvanley’s federation with Manley Primary School.

Pupils past and present enjoyed sharing information, memories and photographs that were used to display a timeline of the school, and last week’s celebrations were rounded off with an anniversary assembly.

Headteacher Kate Walker said: “It was a really exciting week. The children produced some beautiful artwork and had been working since February finding facts for the fascinating historical timeline on display in the hall.

“We had about 40 special visitors, including ex-pupils and members of staff, and it was very emotional, especially for one man who said it was the first time he had been back to the school in 56 years.”
