ACTION Transport Theatre’s autumn season contains five new plays and an international performer from South Africa, all presented at the Shell Chester Literature Festival this October.

The season kick starts with Four for the Port – a new writing project which sees four new short plays performed by 27 young actors, predominantly from Ellesmere Port.

Sponsored by Shell UK for the eighth year in a row, there will be three performances in Ellesmere Port on October 16 and 17 and two performances in Chester on October 23.

The four plays are diverse and touch on themes of heroines, hoodies, asylum seekers and the effects of bipolar.

A script-in-hand performance of another new play, 12 Miles From Nowhere, which was inspired by the lives, ideas and stories of young people who live in rural Cheshire, will be performed on Friday, October 29, at 7pm at the Forum Studio, Chester also as part of the Chester Literature Festival.

Following this performance, there will be a writers panel discussion Writing with Action Transport Theatre.

South African writer and performer Sizwe Vilakazi will be talking about his one man show Tika, set in the township of Soweto, South Africa.

This is Sizwe’s sixth visit to Cheshire and many may well remember him as the performer in the children’s shows Tselane’s Song and Gogo, which toured primary schools and local theatres in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Sizwe will also be running two family-friendly storytelling workshops as part of the new children’s literature festival – GobbleDEEbook – taking place over half term between October 2 -30.

Emiliweni – Zulu for ‘Around the Fire’ – is ideal for five to 11-year-olds and will be bursting with original African stories to make you gasp, where you will learn traditional African dance and physical storytelling tricks using a mixture of Zulu and English. Tickets are only £1 for this event.
