STUDENTS in Ellesmere Port have landed 'dream jobs' following their exam success.

The youngsters, who studied at West Cheshire College in Regent Street, are celebrating outstanding results in BTEC National Diplomas and AVCEs (Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education).

National Diplomas are the equivalent of three A-levels and hard work from students resulted in an excellent pass rate across the board with more than 150 students going on to Higher Education.

Many more secured employment with real career prospects.

About 100 more students are going into higher education after completing an Access to Higher Education course and students on the Art Foundation Diploma also have an excellent track record of gaining places at prestigious art schools and universities.

Laura Rafferty, 19, from Ellesmere Port completed the NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy and says she has landed her 'dream job'.

She explained: 'As part of my course I did work experience at Craxton Wood Hotel and they were so impressed that they offered a job in the spa.

'After getting experience in the spa I decided to get myself some more qualifications and took a year out of work to concentrate on my studies.

'As a result of the experience and qualifications I gained at college, I have just been offered a position with Virgin as a therapist.'

All 14 students in Laura's class have found positions with reputable beauty spas and salons in the region.

They include Lesley-Ann Quilliam, 19, from Great Sutton, who has landed a job at the Debonair Salon in Ellesmere Port, and 18-year-old Rachael Dowson from Whitby, who will now work for Fitness First and Robert Marcs.
