Rising football stars at a Chester  school have taken victory in an  annual six-a-side tournament.

The Abbey Gate College Under 11  football team won the event held at  Ellesmere College, continuing their  fine run of form in the tournament,  where they were defeated finalists  last year.  Teams are invited from  across Cheshire, Shropshire and  North Wales.

Two wins and a defeat saw the  team progress through from the  group stages, before a 1-0 victory  and a win on penalties against  Rydal Penhros saw the team reach  the final for the second year  running.

Prestfelde Prep school from  Shrewsbury awaited the team in  the final, which went to a dramatic  penalty shoot-out.

Keeper Adam Povey made two  crucial penalty saves and the task  fell to Morgan Cox to stroke home  the winning spot-kick for the  college.

One player of note during the  tournament was Hugo Cook, who  played with a mature head and had  a positive impact on how the squad  played.
