A woman who sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on the A55 three days ago is in a 'critical' condition.

She was rushed to Aintree Hospital following the collision, which involved four cars and a lorry and closed the busy dual carriageway near the Posthouse roundabout on Friday afternoon (December 16).

A Cheshire police spokeswoman confirmed that the 46-year-old victim, who is from Wrexham, is 'described as in a stable but critical condition'.

Firefighters had to rescue her from her vehicle.

Several others were understood to have been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Police are still appealing for witnesses of the crash.
