Traffic is gridlocked around the Posthouse roundabout n Chester this morning (Tuesday, March 31) due to the traffic lights being stuck on red for the second time in just over a month.

The queue on the A483 from Wrexham stretches around a mile with delays of up to 20 minutes, while the tailback from Chester is three miles.

On the A55 from North Wales traffic is backed up two miles while the congestion in the opposite direction is around four miles.

Elliot White posted on Twitter: “Temp traffic lights on A483, near Posthouse roundabout, appear to be stuck on red in both directions.”

Kay Roberts ALSO tweeted: “Posthouse temporary traffic lights stuck on red. #avoid #chaos.”

It’s the second time the temporary traffic signals have failed at the roundabout which is undergoing major roadworks until May.

On that occasion motorists were stuck in lengthy queues for up to two hours during evening rush-hour, and to make matters worse the repair work was delayed because the engineer got stuck in the jams.

The £6m scheme to improve the Posthouse roundabout junction has caused chaos on the A483, the A55, and other main roads nearby since work began in September last year.

The road works were due finish this month but were put back to May with the delay blamed on “adverse weather” and “problems with drainage and bridge strengthening works”.
