STUDENTS at Whitby High School are celebrating the school’s best A-level results ever.

Pupils receiving their AS and A-level results again improved on results last year.

Many students attained the highest grades, getting them into their first choice universities or into employment.

A particular cause for celebration are the results of the head and deputy head boys of the school.

Head boy Jonathan Sanders will take up his place at Oriel College, Oxford to read English Literature and deputy head boy James Wilkinson will go to Birmingham to study medicine.

Outgoing headteacher  Margaret Hughes said: “I am absolutely thrilled at the results this year and extremely proud of these young people and all the hard work and effort they have put into their studies over the past two years. 

 “I would also like to thank all the staff at the Whitby High School for their commitment and support.”

James Wilkinson  obtained two A* grades in Biology and general studies, two A grades in chemistry and mathematics and an A Grade in AS physics.

Jonathan Sanders obtained two A* grades in English literature and mathematics an A in drama, a B in general studies and a B grade in AS German.

Jack Lloyd obtained an A* in mathematics, two A grades in chemistry and  general studies, a B in biology, an A* in AS geography and a B grade in AS further mathematics.

Samantha Woodcock  obtained  an A* in general studies, 2 A grades in product design and fine art, a B in mathematics and a B grade in AS further mathematics.

Peter Gloslie-Phillips obtained three A grades in geography, RE and general studies and a B grade in  history.

Jonathon Heyes obtained an A* in general studies, an A in product design, C grades in mathematics and physics and a B grade in AS ICT.

Richard Kneale obtained an A* in general studies, an A in mathematics, a B in chemistry, a C in physics and B grades in AS biology and  further mathematics.

Rebecca McHugh obtained two A grades in French and RE, a B in English language, a D in general studies and a B grade in AS history.

Holly Ross obtained two A grades in textiles and art, a C in general studies plus an A grade in AS applied art and a C grade in AS business.

Other students who obtained more than 1,000 QCA points were Susannah Brumby, Jake Champion, Timothy Cooper, Jamie Gibson, Josh Holt, Katy Radcliffe,  Rebekah Rochell-Gill, Hannah Selby-Hughes, Jack Wareing and Mary Worthington.
