A 59-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a bus on the A41 at Backford near Chester.

Emergency services were called to the north-bound carriageway of the A41, close to the Ellesmere Port turn-off, at 8.45am this morning (Monday).

The patient was taken by ambulance to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool where his condition was initially described as critical. However, this was later downgraded to serious. He has fractures to his ribs and pelvis.

The north-bound carriageway was closed for a time with traffic diversions put in place, leading to congestion backing up towards Chester.
