ABOUT 200 veteran, vintage and classic cars set off for the 13th Walled Towns Trail Run in a dual start from Chester and Beaumaris on Sunday (September 25) bound for Conwy.

The car run has been organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council in conjunction with the towns of Beaumaris, Caernarfon, Conwy and Denbigh.

Taking part in the run will be many famous cars representing every decade from 1900 to 1970.

Car makes include Armstrong Siddeley, Bentley, Chrysler, Ford, Gilbern, Hillman, Jaguar, Lea Francis, Morgan, Studebaker, plus some new entries – Paterson, Franklin and Bristol.

The oldest is a 1907 Paterson 30 and the youngest a 1973 Triumph Stag.

“The continuing popularity of this event is testament to the attraction that Chester and North Wales has for all,” said Councillor Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation at Cheshire West and Chester Council.

“I am particularly pleased to see entries from all over the North West, Midlands and North Wales - Southport in the north, Macclesfield in the east, Stourbridge in the south and Anglesey in the west.”

The event has two starts, with a selection of cars starting from Gorse Stacks in Chester and The Green in Beaumaris from 9am.

Chester will be flagged away by the Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Eleanor Johnson, who said: “This is a great annual event with a myriad of colourful and exciting vehicles which always invoke fond memories of an age gone by. A must for all to see.”

The vehicles will travel from Chester through Llay, Mold, Ruthin, and Llanbedr. They then venture onto Conwy via Denbigh, Betws-y-Rhos and Llandudno to finish at Bodlondeb, Conwy.

At the same time there will be cars starting from Beaumaris travelling through

Caernarfon, Llanberis, Betwys-coed and Llandudno to join the others at the finish in Conwy.

The Lord Mayor of Chester, and the mayors of Denbigh, Conwy, Beaumaris and Caernarfon will judge the cars in six categories – Best Vintage Car, Best Post-Vintage Car 1930-1940, Best Classic Car 1945-1972, Best Sports Car, Best Saloon Interior and the most appropriate dressed occupants in relation to the age of their car.
