A great-grandmother from Chester has celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Hilda Shenton, née Pemberton, was born in Mouldsworth and grew up in the countryside with her brother Dennis.

She married Frank in 1936 and moved to Hoole where she has lived ever since. She worked in the potting sheds at Mostyn Nursery in Upton which Frank owned.

Hilda has four sons, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and celebrated with family and friends at her Hoole home.

Her birthday cake was made specially for her by Oksana at Russian Style Crepes in Weston Grove, and Oksana and her husband also presented Hilda with a beautiful picture embedded with amber.

All in all the celebration was a great success and she was delighted to receive her card from the Queen and a telegram from the Secretary of State for works and pensions.

Hilda says good family, friendship and laughter are some of the attributes to her long life.
