A 10-year-old boy from Hoole is appealing for help to travel to Italy later this month to compete in the world kickboxing championships.

Jarad Vidler, a pupil at Newton Primary School, trains twice a week with Brian Nelson Lau Gar Kung Fu at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton and at Wrexham Water World.

He has been training since he was four and qualified for the WKA/WTKA world championships when he attended the Holywell kickboxing tournament in June. He came first in the semi contact category, second in the light contact category and his team came third overall.

Mum Liz, who works for Chester accountants Shaw Austin, said: “He absolutely loves kick boxing and to represent the country would be wonderful.”

When Jarad travels to Italy with dad Nik, an IT consultant with the NHS, Liz will remain at home with Jarad’s younger brother Anton, who has already starting learning kickboxing himself.

She added: “It has cost us over £1,000 for Jarad and Nik to travel to Italy - £600 for the competition entry fee and hotel and £250 each for flights. We have put it on credit cards and raided our savings so that he can go.

“We are not looking for any help with Nik’s costs as he is going to support Jarad.”

Jarad will compete with Team England and join 10,000 other competitors in La Spezia from October 29 - November 3.
