The 18th Chester Brownies had a fun-filled evening at Tesco in Frodsham Street, Chester, as part of the ‘Farm to Fork Project’.

The event, which was co-ordinated by Nicola Tuffs, Farm to Fork project leader at the store, is designed to help tackle children’s diet-related health problems and their relationship to food. The Brownies used the visit to complete parts of their Healthy Heart Badge.

During the visit the girls toured the bakery and felt the heat of the cooling ovens, found out how bread is made and saw inside the ‘proofer’, an area where the bread rises. They also experienced the freezer room and learnt about fish from Steve the fishmonger.

Nicola explained the different types of foods and displayed the range of healthy fruit and vegetables including ‘superfoods’.

The girls then had the opportunity to made a healthy lunch consisting of rice salad and a yoghurt pudding with fruit. They had great fun, chopping, mixing and stirring and learning about healthy eating.

Following this visit the The Healthy Eating Badge was achieved by the pack and valuable lessons on eating correctly were learnt.
