Multimillionaire Simon Nixon from Chester has relocated to the tax haven of Jersey, according to the island’s media.

The Jersey Evening Post reports that Mr Nixon, who founded Ewloe-based price comparison site moneysupermarket.com, ‘moved to the island earlier this year’.

The article states: “The founder of Moneysupermarket.com, who is one of the island’s newest residents, will be a star panellist in next month’s annual debate staged by the Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors.”

In February Mr Nixon, 45, told The Chronicle he was considering moving abroad because the British weather had been so poor last year.

He said: “I have been looking. For a long time I have wanted to spend more time in a climate where the weather is better. The whole point of having financial independence is to enhance your standard of living.

“I intend to spend more time overseas in future but I’ve not decided where that will be. I will always keep my roots in Chester. I would never sell my house in Chester – it’s where my family and friends are.

“Don’t get me wrong, if I could combine a higher standard of living with lower tax that would be an advantage,” added Mr Nixon.

In June he landed a 170m windfall after selling 80m shares in moneysupermarket. He had already banked a 100m fortune when the website joined the stock market in 2007.

Mr Nixon will also collect about 20m from a dividend payout on his remaining 29% stake in the company.

He told The Chronicle he is busy “looking for the next Google or the next Facebook”.
