Two people have received minor treatments following a chemical spill in one of the Countess of Chester Hospital's theatres this morning (Monday, December 8).

Fire crews from three stations - Chester, Ellesmere Port and Frodsham - were called to the hospital shortly after 11.30am after the minor spillage. A cordon was put in place while firefighters, who wore specialist suits and breathing apparatus, assisted with the clean-up.

As a precautionary measure, a small number of theatre staff attended Accident and Emergency, where two staff members were treated.

A spokesperson for The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: “Earlier this morning there was a minor chemical spill in one of the 11 theatre spaces at The Countess of Chester main hospital site.

"We have tried and tested procedures to manage this type of incident. On this occasion the spill was too large for the Trust to manage independently and we are grateful to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for supporting us in safely cleaning up the spillage."
